Matthew is the Group Director of Sales and Founder of ATEL. He founded the company following a tragic car accident which resulted in both legs being amputated above the knee and 65% third degree burns to his body. After more than 130 operations, Matthew’s only opportunity to live independently was to design and build a house with environmental controls and assistive and adaptive technology. He wanted to use this experience to help others with disabilities live in the comfort and dignity they deserve.
ATEL provides complete independence for those living with a disability by delivering pioneering adaptive technology. This adaptive technology is an investment in the future wellbeing of adults with physical disabilities.
Matthew shared this vision with Jonathan Wrigley, an experienced property developer who has delivered residential and commercial development and investment across the UK and Europe. Jonathan is the managing director of HB Villages, the leading developer of supported living projects in the UK. HB Villages is committed to transforming the lives of vulnerable people by building homes that give them greater independence and dignity.
Together Matthew and Jonathan have developed an innovative combined care and technology supported living model which not only gives adults with learning and physical disabilities the opportunity to live independently, it also reduces the overall cost of providing care and support for local authorities and care providers. This model has been welcomed and praised by the sector and HB Villages and ATEL have set a vision to build fit for purpose universal smart living specialist supported accommodation in every local authority in the country.
